Hi all, This problem is driving me crazy: I am planning on using an 18F45K80 in a battery monitoring application and I noticed, initially to my pleasant surprise, that it claims datasheef have an internal voltage reference for the ADC.

In the datasheet, it states that you can select the following options for Vref: The list of “features” of the datasbeet states “internal voltage reference” but other dafasheet this statement and this list of settings, I see no mention of it whatsoever in the datasheet, errata, or app notes. In fact, there IS a voltage reference mentioned in the electrical specifications, but it appears to be something completely different: Any ideas what is going on here?
Sloppy documentation by the look of it Oh. It also seemed to have specs for how low the Vcc could be for each value.

Sean On Wed, Nov 16, at 7: I suspect that others now make similar regulators in lower voltages but I don’t have manufacturers or part numbers handy. Another option is to use a low-cost shunt reference such as the LM, which will give you 2.

Instead, think of using a voltage reference for your main voltage regulator assuming you don’t need high current. As noted, you can get good accuracy fairly cheaply.
I also need mA from I do most 7805acg my designs such that the 5V rail has to supply only a tiny amount of current: All of the high-current stuff runs from the unregulated supply, either directly or via a switcher. That makes it easy for me to use a reference as my Vdd supply.
That would be really inexpensive and is as datwsheet as the shunt regulator. Note that the feedback into the shunt regulator comes from the regulated output of the power supply. You mention automotive – a reasonable number of my designs are used in either automotive or industrial machinery 24V rail nominal.
